Choosing the right OMD site to host your music!

So you’ve finished producing your musical masterpiece, but how do you get it out into the world?
Probably one of the best ways to to sign up to one of the many OMD (Online Music Distribution) website, but which is the best and what do you want paid for or FREE!
With our experience over the years we have found that paid for sites are usually the best and a selection can be found here in the post, but free are ok if you have a few tracks, but for more space then paid for is generally a better choice.
So what to look for?
First look for a site that has a great community around it, where other artists can maybe help promote your music and build your online fanbase such as Project Overseer Productions (or POP as it is know to it’s users) and ReverbNation (ideal for building a fanbase) .
Then look for the amount of space provided to host your music and what the highest quality you are able to upload 128Kbps is ok but some allow upto 320Kbps, most OMD sites will also have an online radio station creation by yourself and other artists, therefore more airplay.
One major thing to think about is free downloads, the argument rages on about should you or shouldn’t you offer free downloads of your music, it’s a simple case of, more people will download your music if it’s free, but your downloads will drop considerably if you charge for them, even as little as 10p will stop them downloading.
But in our experience, we would say offer some as free (lower quality recordings 64Kbps) and charge for the higher quality recordings (128-320Kbps) this way if someone really loves the tracks they’ll want a great quality recording. Most sites now have a sell tracks option so it’s easy to do.
So what are the best sites?
It’s personal choice for what site your choose, but we have supplied you with a list of sites that we and other Atom Sounds artists have used in the best and are currently using.

- ReverbNation (Free, Radio)

From what I’ve heard from a friend who uses it, ReverbNation is best in terms of customer service if anything goes wrong, and they have wonderful upload speeds for those of you with lots of music to share.
And no, I don’t work for ReverbNation.
