As I meander along the meaningfull rivers of memoralble music from the past, present and future. I stumble upon a gem. I sometimes get capsized (on purpose) and I fall head first into the river where I am gasping for breath and struggling to get my self back into my floating mobile.

DIGITAL BEAT did just that to me, why?

Its not very often that a producer can create music of clearly differing genre’s and pull them off with an authentic groove and style of an expert of each and every genre covered.

As I am getting older I hate the chure of having to go shopping with the Mrs for the weekly necessities. My eye for a bargain has never dwindled though and when one catches my eye I am always quick to seize it with both hands. we have all been in the clothes shop looking for that top or bottoms that fit right. You find the item you like put it on look in the mirror and the arms are to long or its baggy in the waste. Try on DIGITAL BEAT for size, what ever your genre preference or tastes, they will fit snuggly and with room for you to move and feel comfortable. I cannot believe that DB are offering there music for free. my advice is get em while they are going, FOR FREE ??!!

Here’s your link, now go get em!!!

Ok, DB have many creations and every one is top quality, but lets focus on a single track…

Dark Sun (final mix)

This opens quite inconspicuously some percussive hits and that’s it. In the background though there is an acidic, rythmic pulse thats is just bursting with energy. Is this a taste of things to come in this track I hear my self thinking. Sure is, the beats come into play and you sent off on a bouncing rollercoaster ride that is so comfortable that I find myself realising that this is just simply “top notch”.

The overall feel to this track is a little confusing, but in a good way. There’s an industrial vide to the groove running right thru the architecture of this, but there’s a trancience and acid house feel to. The combinations of such diverse entities really add to the flava of this superb track. What I have noticed listening to this Artists music is that in each track there’s a new trick that he/she has learnt and they are show casing this to the world for us to marvel at and wonder how the heel did they do it? What i found realy cool in this was the WOW WOW synth. This artist shows how skillfull they are with the editing of the LFO on this. He has it in time with the beat. Then it is sped up as fast as it could possible go then its slowed down right back in time. This really adds to the head knodd-ability of the track. It aids focus for the listener and thus its an easy tune to listen and dance to.

This artist has a superb grasp of DANCE BEAT timing, the progression and movement is perfection, each passage of music comes in and fades at the correct times. Also I love how the beats drop out for a quarter, focuses on an individual nuiance or sound and drop back in again. This not only shows talent and great timing but it shows that this artist has confidence. Anyone can make a dance tune, but when you get the timing right even the most average sounds and beats can sound good if they are placed in the correct places. See most seem to think that dance is 16 beat through and through, not the case. what if you have a chord sequence of mellody thats 32? this guys knows exactly what he is doing.

At around 5:30 the track turns its focus on the “Cheesy Quaver Raver” and gets all twangy and distorted, love it. DB is just showing off now and why not with a bag of tricks like these up my sleeve like this I’d do the same.

Overall this track is excellent, and so are the other tunes on this Artists page.

What would I have done differently with this track? absolutely nothing.

But please read on…

Its the age old mistake that many online producers make when creating dance beats. The intro, the dream for many unsigned artists now a days is to have a Dj drop their tune on a large dance floor. For this to happen you have to make your music Dj friendly. A good Dj likes to mix his tunes pretty much like a trance producer likes to fade in and mix the next layer of strings or pads seemlessly to his creation. The intro (unless you are trying to pull of a dance floor Anthem) needs to be drawn out. Have you ever noticed some of the monster tracks made for the dance floor when you buy them are just beats at the start untill the track gets going? Yep I am sure you have, in most cases a Dj would have produced this track. Look at it from a Dj prospective, whats the point in trying to mix something thats all over the place and out of sequence but sounds good, when you can drop a tune that mixes easily and sounds good. Always aim for a clean sound for at least 3/4 bars and steadily introduce/build your track gradually. Trust me a Dj will analyse a track when he listens to it and if it has the correct ingredients he knows what tune in his box that will mix with it.

Oops off on a rant again, the above statement was nothing to do with Digital Beat as I mentioned the timing thing earlier in my review.

I am sure that many who have already descovered DB will agree. The music created by this artist is excellent.

Looks to me that DIGITAL BEAT have a new fan thats me…

Respects

I’ve been listening to Digital Beat for some years now and can quite honestly say that we are so proud to have Kimmo in the Atom Sounds roster, he produces some truly outstanding music.
