When it comes to producing your music on CDs that look so cool that they wouldn’t look out of place in your local store can be very, very expensive, but it doesn’t have to be!
For starters you will need to spend some cash on some decent equipment such as a CD re-writer, but most of the time your computer should have one already built in, secondly some software for burning the discs is a must, we would recommend Nero, this has some great options when burning your music such as removing those annoying 2 seconds gaps between tracks and also if you have Nero Soundtrax you can produce disc with hidden tracks in the discs pause section that some professionally produced albums sometime have these days.
So that’s the CD duplication done, but how about the printing etc.
You are best getting your hands on a printer that prints direct to CD such as the Epson R200, which comes bundled with software that will design the booklet, tray cards and the CD printing and the print quality is superb, also try the Epson Stylus Photo R360 or even the HP Photosmart D5160
but don’t buy those CD labeling packs, instead get your hands on “silver printable discs” these look amazing when printing in full colour or black and white.
For the booklet and tray card printing/designing then you really can’t go wrong with PhotoShop for outstanding effects etc. Also use gloss coated inkjet paper when printing as this really looks more professional than printing on normal printer paper, you wouldn’t expect the latest CD you bought in the shops to be printed on normal paper and neither would you customers.
CD boxes are a personal preference for most you can have the choice of standard jewel cases, slimline cases or cd sleeves, I would personally go with the jewel cases that’s what you get if you buy a CD, to look even more pro, get your hands on some wrapping for your finished these general come in packs of 200 and are self sealing.
Once you have done everything pack of your copies to somewhere like CDBaby where you will get your music on sites such as PayPlay and iTunes.
Then start promoting your release EVERYWHERE ![]()
