David Sims aka Braindrop was born in September ‘91, in Aylesbury, UK. He is from a musical family and plays the instruments piano (grade 5), trombone (grade 8 distinction), keyboard/synths, cornet/trumpet, guitar and recorders. He started composing in 2004, for a rock group at his school. From February 2005, he began to publish sheet music over the internet, his early work gaining top 10 placings on the guitar charts; and by the age of 14 two of his songs had entered the main website charts- “Betrayal” reached #5 in the Rock chart out of 3,000 scores. Another song, “The Trip”, impressively topped the Rock charts for 2 months straight in the summer of 2006, as well as peaking at #5 in the overall chart of over 56,000 pieces of music (see ‘Chart Positions’). To round off a fantastic summer musically for David, he also took his GCSE music exam two years early, scoring an A*.
The idea for Braindrop started in March 2007, after a pair of songs that David had started took an obviously darker tone from his usual writings (these later became ‘Hollow Cause’ and ‘Saul‘). Having been signed by the record label Atom Sounds early in the following month, he soon finished recording his debut album. It was released to moderate success in mid-June 2007. Writing for the second album, A31, commenced in late August of that year and the album was released on September 10th 2007. An accompanying video for Midnight on the Sea Front was shot in early July 2008, and there are plans for a b-sides compilation to be released in the not too distant future.
