This page is a little about the authors/contributors of Atom Sounds Music News:
Karen – Admin and founder of Atom Sounds:
Karen started electronica solo project Remergence back in 1997, but later was joined by Jake Jones aka JJ and it became the duo that most know and love, to get a kick start in the fierce music world they started Atom Sounds an Indie Record Label in 2005, mainly for self promotion, but, later the site grew with many artists wanting a piece of the pie, so they opened it up and added a great collection of artists in many genres.
On the way Karen has made many friends and started several sites to help promote fellow artists such as this site Atom Sounds Music News also a website directory, store for selling artists cds, a forum for artists to promote themselves to the world and soon a wiki style site for even more promo for artists.
All this and still trying to finish Remergence albums
Jake – Author and co-founder of Atom Sounds
As mentioned above Jake started Atom Sounds with Karen in 2005 shortly after becoming part of Remergence in 2002.
Jake has always been the silent one of the pair, usually staying in the background and letting Karen do all the work, but behind the shadows Jake is the production/remaster-er of the Remergence work, he is also the sanity behind Atom Sounds with usually the last say on how things should look, it’s not very often that he comes forward, but when he does, his wisdom is worth it’s weight in gold!
Tony Lawson aka IMISound – Editor
Tony Lawson has been dabbling in many different art-forms for longer than he cares to remember: convinced of the fundamental importance of creative expression for the balance and well-being of the human soul. His personal output ranges from photography to graphic design, from song-writing to music and art promotion, from short stories to poetry, from blogs to web-design. He is not an artistic genius nor is he seeking fame and fortune: he simply feels a deep-rooted need and desire to express his inner feelings and social convictions and share them with whoever may be interested.

Tony Cummings aka Mind Productions – Resident Reviewer, Author
1979 is when it started for me at the age of 12. My friend’s brother who lived in london came home for the weekend. He brought with him a new album he was listening to, “Man Machine” by Kraftwerk.
I will never forget that day when he played the first track on the A side of that album “The Robots” and started to do his Robotic Dancing. The music and dancing had a profound impact on me. The music that I was listening at the time was none discript. In other words the usual 12 year old taste. I guess I had not found my niche for musical preferences until then.
From that day on I bugged my parents to buy me a 7` single or album of kraftwerk’s music.
Around 1981/2 I spotted a 12″ by an artist called Afrika Bambaataa. The track was called “Planet Rock”.
I can distincly remember thinking WOW this is cool. It was the edge in music that I was looking for. Of course I recognised the riff from Kraftwerks Trans Europe Express which sold the track to me even more.
Being introduced by sheer luck to the US Electro Hip Hop Scene. Opened up many other fresh and new artists to me such as Twilight 22, Hashim,Juan Atkins and Nucleus.
I first started to get interested in mixing around the same time and I purchased my first set of decks, Cloud Series 2 which were very clumsy. These were a great set to practice on and in no time at all I figured out how to mix and scratch. I was some what a celebrity in my town to most, and a wierdo to others.
I started Break Dancing around 1983/4 and my friends and I formed a b-boy crew “Cobra Free Style”
We entered a dance competition through our local youth club and un-be-known to us it was national. There was a Break Dancing section of the competition. We just went for a day out and a laugh, and we won it!! Yeah I can still do all the moves and my kids think that I am the coolest Dad!!
The competition had a celebrity of its own promoting his music. The artist was Paul Hardcastle and he was promoting his track 19.
Having won the competition we went up to recieve our award and I got to shake Paul Hardcastle hand. I then collected every track Paul made until 1989. I guess I got a little obsessed with his music.
Around 1986′ish the magazine I collected “Street Scene” announced that a new genre was emerging in the American city Chicago.
“House music” was its name and to be honest I hated it for about 20 minutes!!
I cannot remember the name of the track that I first listened to but, I do know that it was by “Adonis”
Around 1987 I purchased a drum machine called
the Casio RZ-1, sorry guy’s its gone to analouge heaven. This together with my Tascam 4 track which I learnt how to bounce. I started to produce some music but it was very short lived. I was more interested in girls and raving typical 20 year old!!!!
From then on I went to most of the Aceed warehouse raves in and around Kent and Oxford. Yeah I participated in every way, so I was a bit of a naughty boy sorry!!
1990-1992
The birth of Techno and the modern raver culture, yeah!! I loved the gritty, edgey sound of techno especially Belgian, it spoke volumes to me. My favourite artists included Joey Beltram, Dave Angel, Homeboy Hippy & a Funky Dred and record labels such as R&S, Nu-Groove and Network Recordings.
In 1996 I entered a competition in Mix Mag to win a DJ residency at The Ministry of Sound.
Unfortunately i never won, I came third but it was national!!! As a result I got to play at cream twice on friday nights.
This was cool because met
Paul Oakenfold, van Dyk and a young Eddie Halliwell. This got me quite a few gigs around the uk and I started to get on the mailing lists of some great record labels.
I finally settled down at around 2000 when I fell in love with my now Wife Monica, we have two children, Madison and Joshua. I tend to hit the clubs every two or three months with my mates (Producers and DJ’s) so I am still very much in touch with the scene.
I now concentrate on making my own brand of music that I find very rewarding.
I am very much looking forward to this new chapter for my musical expression. Also I hope that my experience of the music scene and club culture will encourage others to become more active with in it.
I promise to use all my knowledge to help artists to achieve thier goals through thoughtful and honest reviewing.
Music is a form of expression, so express your self.
With respect.
