Remergence track Probably (Styler Remix) reviewed

Remergence - Probably (Styler Remix)
Hear The Track
——————————–
Like a great many electronic minded musician, I whiled away acres of time a few years ago playing around with programs like Rebirth and the like. I’ve always been a fan of the original instruments so it follows that I would be interested in a software version of it. Having spent the aforementioned acres of time seeing what Rebirth and it’s endless clones were all about. My electronica phase, probably all the good, came to a rapid end. The chief reason (no pun intended) that comes about is because if there is one musical genre that really gnaws on my patience it’s techno and the ilk. Obviously I am foaming at the mouth because I have just spent some time listening to Remergence’s version of the music I must not mention.

Coming to a track like this from my viewpoint, there is bound to be a bit of antipathy, but Remergence chooses a much lighter and coherent groove than you would expect; mainly based around a cut up female vocal that works extraordinarily well with such an out and out electronica blitz. I think it’s that which saves Probably from an early visit from the Delete Button. That isn’t to say that the musical side of this is somehow bad or wrong. It isn’t, and I always look hard for spare ammo to lob at artists, as you all well know.

Where it does step out of the ordinary is in the use and inclusion of that female vocal I mentioned. It gives the track that essential spice it would have otherwise have missed. At that stage of the game, a techno track is a techno track, know what I mean? The vocal enters the picture initially as a series of notes before developing into a full blown yo mama vocal vocoded to within an inch of its life which - as it happens - is exactly what I wanted to hear from this genre. Not sure if this is a real vocalist or not (not samples for nstance), but if it is, that is a voice well worth hearing.

Surprisingly commercial electronica. Recommended.

Dream Lab - Cosmotherapy

Dream Lab - CosmotherapyDream Lab aka Stuart Elliot and Emil Anderberg have come up with one of the most enjoyable chill out albums that I’ve ever heard for years.

From the very start of the Cosmotherpy you are taken away from the world into a relaxed state of mind with subtle drifting keyboards, gentle beats and each track flows wonderfully out of your speakers into you ears unobtrusively.

Even the lyrics on the tracks “I’ll Guide You” and “Silver Skies” are gently and a pleasure to listen to, giving the CD that ‘I want to hear it again’ quality.

Ranging from Psydub to Progressive, featuring the amazing vocal work of Seka and Susi Lavender (Cling), including the remixes of Marco Torrance, Ferdy & Edwin and Easily EmbarrassedDream Lab have surpassed themselves with this release, the whole album just never ceases to amaze and the more your listen the more you hear those sounds that you may not of noticed before.

I can quite honestly say that since I received my copy of the CD it’s not been out of my CD Player or off my iPod, it’s a complete joy to listen to.

You can purchase Cosmotherapy from: CDBaby, iTunes and Cardamar Music.

Lost by vancouver sound

Lost - Vancouver SoundNow it’s not very often that you come across an album that just leaps at you says, “here I am you know you want to play me!” and this album is certainly one of those.

Vancouver Sound (akaNicholas Landbeck) has a distinct sound of it’s own, that takes the genre of ambient to a new step, the tracks on this album just put you in a higher state of chill.

The takes snippets of speech, vinyl and other sources and brings them together seamlessly, released back in 2005 this is a must for all fans of ambient style music, it’s a pure joy to listen to and can be played over and over again with the loss of listening enjoyment.

The album consists of thirteen tracks which lucky for all off us can be found at Vancouver Sound’s website as free download, so my my advice is get it while you can, and just chill out, go on… you know you want too ;)

You can also find Vancouver Sound at Last.FM.

Review - Bob Evans - See The Light - CD

“See the Light” by Bob Evans review by Karen

Those needing some culture will certainly find it on Bob’s album “See the Light”, with great guitar work and soothing beats to some nice rock/country sounding tracks.

Now I will openly admit that upon first hearing the title track “See the Light” on the Atom Sounds CD, I thought to myself, here is an artist that has a god given talent and that talent is Bob’s vocals tied into some amazing guitar work.

“See the Light” consists of twelve tracks and each track on the album has that Bob Evans feel, but at the same time each track is different from the next, a change these days. The CD opens with the immensely toe tapping title track “See the Light” and from that point on it just gets better.

Blues, country, rock it’s all here, Bob’s lyrics have a feeling that they were written with a pure feel to compliment the music and they do the job perfectly. Bob’s voice becomes an instrument in it’s own right, accompanying each track with passion.

The CD also includes the great “Nimrod ‘The Hunter’” a rather superb instrumental track that shows the talent that is Bob Evans, along with other tracks such as “Love Is Where You Find It” which has a great feel to it, “On A Knife Edge” and my favourite “Journey Back Home” with that sound of thunder that makes you look outside your window.

CD production is really well done with a nicely designed cover of Bob faded into a moon scene, track list on the inner and rear sleeve, the CD itself has a great sound to it, with crystal clear sound production, which really help with the low pitches of some other guitar notes, so you don’t miss a thing.

If you haven’t heard Bob’s music then I highly recommend you track out his website for some of his other tracks.

Overall Bob has produced a wonderful sounding CD that even if it’s not your genre of music you will enjoy it, “See the Light” will want you to come back for more.

Swept Away by Karma Police - CD Review

Swept Away by KarmaPolice It’s not very often that you come across an album that you can’t get enough of, but Swept Away is one of those albums.

Neil aka KarmaPolice has done a superb job producing an album that surely everyone should have in their CD collection, Neil has given us tracks that take the listener that bit further into listening euphoria.

With the opening track “Intro” which is a drifting effect of nature wonderful sound of wind, we are faultlessly taken into the superb “Swept Away”, with flowing synths and a calming ambient beat, “Swept Away” is an amazing track from start to end.

“Huge Universe” throws you with a semi-reversed beat that changes into a fantastic track that can only be heard to be described, truly amazing.

Track 4 is the outstanding “Angels Breathe” this track has a wonderful piece of piano work with a relaxing beat that is joined by the wonderful vocal talents of LisaT, a true collaboration of two artist that should be signed up by a major record company (are you reading this Sony, Warner etc).

“Joi” has an Indian feel to it, with it’s sitar sounding instrument and tables (I think that’s what their called), “Joi” develops as it goes along with keyboards flowing along with a pure relaxing feel, with Neil superb piano work kicking in to give the track that KarmaPolice sound.

Now I must admit that “Another Fine Mess” is possibly one of my favourites on the CD, piano work to die for, with a wonderful soft synths running throughout, giving the listener a feel a pure ambience, Neil’s use of soft percussion allows the track to be relaxing, yet it keeps you on your toes for more.

“Angelix” is another one of those tracks that you can’t get enough of, it starts with a wonderful sound effect that I can’t really describe, but this effect is taken along the track as a backing effect, with the percussion not to over powering and low and behold, some great sounding synths join the entourage with an amazing stuttered snare, WOW.

“Moon March” starts with what I can only describe as a ping from a submarine with synths to give a truly ambient feel, it reminds me a bit of one of the parts of “Oxygen” by Jean-Michel Jarre, after while a soft bass line is added with percussion, only to be followed by a relaxing synth. The break develops into a choir sound that is a fantastic way of breaking the track down to start up again with percussion and synths.

It’s raining, no it’s not it’s “Get Well Soon” Neil has put his piano over FX of rain, could it be done to sound right, with Neil the answer has to be YES. The Rain fades and we are left with a track that again Neil has produced with flare and style, the keyboards are outstanding, this track is a true masterpiece.

“X-Winter” is just short of 8 minutes long, but it doesn’t seem any longer that 3 or even 4 minutes, wonderful soft flowing synths open this track out to a soft ambient bass line, followed by that ambient KarmaPolice percussion.

Overall “Swept Away” is an outstanding album and in my point of view is up there with the greats such as Orbital, Sven Vath.

If you’ve not got this album then you are missing out on probably one of the best albums released so far, it’s a shame that a major company doesn’t snap Neil up, with the likes of Orbital splitting, there is a gap in the market for pure talent and Neil could easily fill that gap.

Carlos Wilde’s Cocktail CD Review

Every hour is Happy Hour! “Cocktail by Carlos Wilde”
View and stream the songs from “Cocktail”

I recently received my copy of Carlos Wilde’s CD, “Cocktail”. Over the last year, I have enjoyed streaming Wilde’s music online and I looked forward to his CD release. As I opened the package, the alluring CD cover art heightened my anticipation for the music that awaited me.

From the first track, the charming melodies and smooth rhythms stirred up my emotions and took control of my mind and body. Carlos has an enchanting aura about his voice that is as exhilarating as a cool sea breeze on a warm, sunny day. Each song displays a passion that is both intelligent and well crafted. A seasoned traveller and well educated, Carlos is a self-produced, multi-instrumentalist and vocalist residing in Málaga, Spain that embraces many styles of music. From modern dance rhythms, to classic roots r&b and pop sounds of the 70s and 80s. A combination of stirring Fusion-pop and upbeat rhythms poured into a strong mix that forces you to feel at one with the music.

Wilde takes his surroundings and observations and puts them to song with a flare that is pleasantly intoxicating. You can hear the many musical inspirations in songs like, “Staring At The Dark”, “Dreams”, “Phantom” which is simply haunting in both sound and style along with the outstanding, bluesy “On This Side of Paradise”. Every track achieves an intense amount of imagery, as the soothing vocals keep you focused on the talent of this exceptional artist.

The debut CD release, “Cocktail” is a work of smooth sophistication that is genuine and appetizing to the last drop. A passion for perfection has created one of the best stand-out pop CDs of the year. Carlos Wilde’s songs flow like a gratifying elixir that is thought provoking and compels you to dance, sing and raise your glass in celebration!

Salud!
