It’s a new craze sweeping the globe, big named signed artists are giving away tracks for free all over the internet to help promote their music, bands such Coldplay, Nine Inch Nails and Radiohead are at it, but so what!

Millions of unsigned artists have been doing this for years for their loyal fans, so it’s nothing new, some of the press seem to think that it’s never been done before, yeah right!

We can quite honestly say that a lot of the unsigned artists/bands out there are far better than some of the big named signed bands and they haven’t given in to the fat cats quite yet

Good News for fans of Remergence and POP, Remegence have decided to release the new album as a limited FREE download on our POP page, it will be limited to so many free downloads after which it will go up for sale!

Remergence have had a delay on the album as they scrapped most of the tracks as they just didn’t think they made the Remergence grade, so they have started re-working tracks and creating new tracks, so it may take a little longer for the release, but we will keep you posted

Krackatoa are a dark trance / fusion one man outfit from Auckland, New Zealand’s North Shore combining traditional music techniques with modern ones combined in strong melodies and rhythms. Krackatoa isn’t a live act but produce music to distribute freely online and have been releasing tracks regularly since 1998and in that time, built up their own unique ambient sound.

For those following developments on Project Overseer Productions main Artist Section (known as POP) will be pleased to hear that the long awaited upgrade is taking place.

Improvements include a better general layout with easy access to members musical creations, also a better chart system, forums (general and personal) … better photo gallery presentation, Press Kit, Chat Rooms (just use your Artist name login, not password to enter) … future live reviews events like POP’s old `Friday Night Live` will return again to these fully featured chat rooms.

Also for the first time is full HTML page editing, and ALL members have VIP features, a small charge is made for extra space if needed, though most find what’s offered free fine.

Each Artist has many shop features to choose from, and by using PayPal, paid downloads of many file types as well as CD sales are possible as standard.

Coming soon is the return of POP’s Arcade games, more than 450 fun games that will become part of the main Chart system.  These are only a few of the features on offer to talented Independents looking for a good home to showcase their works, and don’t forget … POP Artist have the bonus `interlinking` POP SPACE to extend promos, and its FREE!

This weeks track is an all time favourite here at Atom Sounds, the track is called Dune and is by Anonimix which you can currently download for free at ReverbNation.

Anonimix is a rare Anglo-Sicilian blend of cultures and styles, where north meets south, acoustic meets electronic, and elements of pop, rock, folk and jazz embrace each other on a vibrant bed of Mediterranean and Latin-American rhythms. Thoughtful lyrics, eclectic piano, mellow reeds and lively percussion blend together harmoniously to create a distinctly original sound that escapes easy classification but assures a highly rewardable and enjoyable listen.

Anonimix was born late one evening in the autumn of the year 1999 in a small converted garage in the rugged, lava-black foothills of Mount Etna, on the east coast of Sicily. An only child of mixed parentage, Anonimix’s infancy was strongly marked by the regular, structured, pop/rock influences of an English father and the looser jazz/ethnic influences and rhythms of a Sicilian mother. Raised and nurtured on such classic childhood development aids as Cubase and Stylus, Anonimix began at an early age to explore the delicate art of blending the acoustic instrumentation of those critical formative years with more modern, carefully selected electronic sounds. Timid by nature, Anonimix is not known for extravagant live exhibitions, preferring the quiet intimacy of the garage/studio to fashion and shape with calm reflection the songs and instrumental tracks.

Electronic album with acid breaks and drum and bass. Title track was recorded from human voice and mixed into futuristic breaks style track. This album is available only in Digital Distribution. No physical CD is for sale.

Digital Beat sound is full of driving filtered rhythms, loops and acid synthlines. The original sound of Digital Beat is influenced by oldskool acid, techno, electronica and oldschool hip hop tracks. Digital Beat’s first and most important influences are Prodigy and Jean Michel Jarre. The German electro group Kraftwerk is also a big innovator.

Music is aimed mainly to the dancefloor but it´s produced “living room friendly” aesthetic in mind. Digital Beat produces mostly breakbeat, hard trance, hard dance, electronica, drum and bass and intelligence techno (IDM). Second project is Finnlux Tuna that is a pseudonym for electronic breaks. Often the tracks are first intended for Digital Beat but added for Finnlux Tuna if the tracks are breaks or electro. Digital Beat is for darker sounding tracks.

Now one thing an artist will tell you is that giving away their music for free is something they are not really keen on doing, but sometimes it’s the best way to promote new albums etc.

But now thanks to those wonderful people at tunesquare that may be coming to a stop!

Wait though, the tracks that artists add to tunesquare are still free for everyone to download, but, the bet thing is the artist still gets paid for those downloads, which is great for fans and even better for the artists hard work put into their latest masterpiece.

The tracks that you can download are DRM free and will work on your iTunes and your iPod or any other music player you may be using, so your not held back with only using one type of program to listen to some truly amazing pieces of music.

This is all done by the website using advertising while you are streaming a piece of music on the website and it is unobtrusive, it’s a simple add that plays on the websites player as part of a small flash screen, so your never taken away from the music.

So how does this work for an artist? Simple really sign up, add your Paypal address, upload your music and your away, each time someone downloads a track you get some cash! 50 percent of the total monthly ad revenues, from both flash and static advertisements on the site, is divided by the total number of downloads all songs receive during the same period.
