IMIsound Spotlight Artist: Underscore

The “UnderScore” came to life in the spring of 2003 when Pasquale (bass and vocals) and Antonio (former guitarist) decided to set up a cover band. The duo were soon joined by Diego (drums) and Carlo (keyboards) and before long, in the summer of 2004, the group gave up cover songs and started to write their own material, coming out with its first demo in 2005. In April 2006 Antonio left the band and after a number of unsuccessful experiences with other guitarists, the band decided to experiment with a new, melodic and distinctive, guitar-free sound. The experiment proved successful and the sound was at once captured and used to great effect on the four-track “Children On Birthday” EP.

IMIsound Spotlight Artist: Wide

The band was formed in 2001 after an online meeting between Antonio Rafaschieri and Gianni Pollex. For about three years the sound of the band was very much based on the unrestrained sounds of the British invasion starting with the Beatles, passing through Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin and arriving at the more recent U2, Oasis and Coldplay. Afterwards, with the arrival of the drummer Beppe Garavelli, the bass player Giorgio Cutrignelli and the guitarist Bepy Capasso, the sound scene changed and headed towards an easier musicality, tending more towards an Italian style pop-rock in the wake of artists who have left their mark such as Lucio Battisti, Vasco Rossi, Ligabue. In their own words, “Our aim is to write great songs, catchy tunes, sometimes thoughtful other times danceable, imprinting in the listener’s heart touching choruses which are easy to sing along to. Forced ‘marketability’ with hidden intentions is never a good thing; nonetheless the masses, for good or for bad, are always right and the audience is the only real judge and critic! We make no attempt to hide our aspirations to give life to magnificent concerts for people of every age.”

New Anonimix Album: “Copernico Incantato”

ENGLISH
“Anonimix is a rare Anglo-Sicilian blend of cultures and styles, where north meets south, acoustic meets electronic and elements of pop, rock, folk and jazz embrace each other on a vibrant bed of Mediterranean and Latin- American rhythms. Thoughtful lyrics, eclectic piano, mellow sax and lively percussion blend together harmoniously to create a distinctly original sound that escapes easy classification but assures an enjoyable listen.”

Anonimix was born late one evening in the autumn of the year 1999 in a small converted garage in the rugged, lava-black foothills of Mount Etna, on the east coast of Sicily. An only child of mixed parentage, Anonimix’s infancy was strongly marked by the regular, structured, pop/rock influences of an English father and the looser jazz/ethnic influences and rhythms of a Sicilian mother. Raised and nurtured on such classic childhood development aids as Cubase and Stylus, Anonimix began at an early age to explore the delicate art of blending the acoustic instrumentation of those critical formative years with more modern, carefully selected electronic sounds. Timid by nature, Anonimix is not known for extravagant live exhibitions, preferring the quiet intimacy of the garage/studio to fashion and shape with calm reflection their songs and instrumental tracks.

ITALIANO

IMIsound Spotlight Artist: Fabryka

The “Fabryka” project began at the end of 2004, when Stefano Milella (programming, air-fx, bass guitar, synth, acoustic and electronic drums), Tiziana Felle (voice, guitars, bass guitar), Giovanni Chiapparino (piano, synth, bass, drums, accordion, vibraphone), Agostino Scaranello (bass), and Pasquale Luisi (visual maker) first got together. Although still in its early days, the band is already highly considered and has taken part in the main shows of the music scene. The project aspires at the harmonious blending of acoustic and electronic music, of refined and improvised visuals, all performed or re-created on stage. It is an attempt to merge reality and fiction, fairy tales and facts, words and metaphors. “Fabryka” could be defined as the “moment” in which the different facets of a single expression manage to live together. The band’s name is taken from a Kieslowski documentary film, but it is also inspired by the idea of art as a ‘factory’, an assembly line where numerous little “pieces” are carefully assembled into a final product which does not openly reveal its underlying components: as so often happens in art between thought and expression, feeling and showing, imagination and production.

IMIsound Spotlight Artist: Gianni Rosini

Gianni Rosini was born in Gioia del Colle (Bari) on 31.05.61, in a family that was already contaminated by the music virus; the evidence lying in the splendid performance of his mother, Vera Greco, in “Ie te vurria vasà”. Right from the start Gianni and his brother Mario, runner-up with “Sei la Vita Mia” (You’re my Life) in the 2004 Sanremo Festival, showed their musical talent and found their first admirer and supporter in master Procino.
The Rosini brothers started to attend master Partipilo’s music school and, thanks to their natural gift and young age, were soon participating in song festivals for children and later as a festival attraction in the surrounding villages and towns. At the age of eighteen, Gianni Rosini decided to leave Gioia del Colle and moved to Milan where his artistic abilities were soon noticed and he also began to receive invitations to perform abroad. As a consequence he started to perform in important venues in a number of major European capitals (Vienna, Berlin, Paris etc.) with a repertoire that ranged from international hits to classic Italian songs. Success and its inevitable entourage created in Gianni the urge, the need, to return to his native land and his roots.
Once home, Gianni gathered around him a number of talented musician friends: his brother Mario, an extraordinary pianist, the drummer Mimmo Campanale and the bass player Paolo Romano (currently involved in numerous jazz and pop projects), and formed a group that very quickly made itself known to the public thanks to its musical intensity and the charismatic stage presence of Gianni himself, a real showman. The formation of the group was followed by a long period of concerts in all the major festivals in southern Italy.
In the meantime Gianni nurtured his creative inspiration composing music which was to find favour amongst musical experts in general and in particular with Claudio Rispoli, aka Mozart, musician and producer, who endeavoured to persuade Gianni to record his first album. Unfortunately, Gianni’s restlessness, so typical of true artists, led him to flee from this first contact with the record industry and to enter an important period of artistic maturation triggered by his desire to experience Africa and her sonority. At this point Gianni took up residence for a period in Dakkar in direct contact with the real Africa, a country where extreme hardship merges with joy and with beauty of the truest deepest nature. All this can be found in the album “Giovanni”, in tracks such as “Africa”, “Splendida” or “Cico Bom Bom”. It was all that Gianni needed.
On his return to Italy, Gianni’s desire and need to shout out his emotions became possible in 2004 when his path crossed that of Michele Fazio, Mino Petruzzelli and Pino Mazzarano. These long-standing musician friends, each with a long and important musical experience both as soloists and in groups (the album “Bye Bye Patty Live”, the soundtrack to S. Rubini’s film “Tutto l’amore che c’è”, the tour with Ronnie Jones, Teo Teocoli, Gianluca Grignani etc.) were instantly enchanted by Gianni’s music and his project. This new formation, with the addition of the percussionist Francesco Pelizzari and the young bass player Pierpaolo Giandomenico, finally gave rise to Gianni’s long-awaited debut album, “Giovanni”.
The production of such a long-suffered and much loved creation could not be entrusted to anyone other than to Gianni’s first true supporter, Claudio Rispoli, whose understanding of the importance of the project led to his total dedication. This true life story, with its ups and its downs, its joy and its sufferance, has become the album “Giovanni”, a genuine product, like its author.

New Artist at IMIsound: Acousticherie

A driving passion for music and an overriding desire to play in front of a live audience led to the birth of the Acousticherie project at the end of the year 2005. The line-up includes two acoustic and classical guitarists: Ivan Melis and Elia Casu, a drummer and percussionist: Stefano Vacca, and a singer: Giulio Muscas, with the addition in October 2007 of the bass player: Matteo Muntoni. An instrumentation at the limit of acoustic sometimes filtered with effects to create a more original and particular sound. The group’s repertoire, which ranges from rock ’n’ roll to swing, from bossa nova to the sweetest of ballads and includes ethnic and experimental music, revisits and reinvents in acoustic form the most famous and powerful songs that have characterized the history of music from the beginning of the 20th century up to the present day. Contact with their audiences was immediate from the outset and live exhibitions have given an extra kick to a group already highly charged and well harmonized. Acousticherie has performed live on innumerable occasions, some considerably important, and has had the opportunity to play alongside a number of eminent artists such as the renowned musician Enzo Favata. In the winter of 2006/07 the group produced its first studio album entitled, quite simply, “Acousticherie” which saw the collaboration of a number of friends whose contribution has further enriched what was already a highly individual sound.

New IMIsound Artist: Andreani

ENGLISH
Sicily: land of no shows and countless artists…so many artists…so many artists drawn in by the languid seduction of this magnificent land: artists who will probably never have the opportunity to step into the limelight and set foot on the stage of important theatres. Artists who will allow themselves to be overwhelmed by the limpid blue sea and the human warmth so hard to find elsewhere. Artists who will dig their roots into the ground and never find the ability or the desire to resist the powerful call of a native land that invokes, so jealously, its offspring. That’s the way it is. But not for all. Not for those who have seen through the deception and have closed their eyes and ears, turned their backs and departed as soon as possible and without regrets. These have become great artists. Artists in every sense and in every profession, or artists in the true sense of the word, making themselves known in the world of show business…because a Sicilian always knows how to be the centre of attention, knows what he wants and knows how to get it! From these myriad ranks of Sicilian artists, one artist stands out above all: Andreani - one of the most explicative examples of this strength, tenacity and determination so typical of Sicilian blood. An artist who, in order to escape the magic waves of his homeland, left early, trying to forget his origins but carrying them unconsciously within himself, crystal clear, maybe more to others than to himself but nonetheless visible in his every movement, in every glance. Andreani, a childhood artist with precociously clear ideas, knew his destiny from the beginning and worked towards it immediately. After a wide range of experiences up and down the Italian peninsula in clubs, piano bars and holiday camps, on cruise ships, in the theatre and on television, Andreani finally settled in Milan where, under the guidance of Massimo Ferlito (MF Recording) and Massimo Luca (Top Records) he released his first single “T.V.B.”, followed by “Diversi” and “Domani No” with which he participated in Sanremorock in 2001. Almost immediately afterwards “Il Terzo Uomo” was released, written with Massimo Ferlito and Riccardo Prestianni: a lightly ironical six-track cd in the Easy Pop genre. Andreani’s career semmed to be taking off at last but his idealogical refusal to accept the hypocrisy of show business led the artist to slam this door behind him for another five years. Now the artist is once again back on the music scene with a new single “Ancora Su”, written with the singer Leandro Barsotti and produced by MFRecording and Dabliù Sound.

IMIsound Spotlight Artist: Mirko

Mirco Possemato - aka Mirko - is a singer/songwriter. He has been writing songs with his lady (guitar) since he was 14 years old. He will never forget his first musical loves: Battisti, Vasco, Grignani, Doors, Him etc. In fact, “influenced” by their art he felt within him an increasing desire to play, to sing, to let people hear his music! At the age of 15 his first guitar lessons on a Yamaha given to him by the two people he loves most (his mother and father). He began his first musical experiences with little exhibitions in his home town, playing his own compositions which were received with enthusiasm by the general public. As a result, in 2002, he decided to form a group “Exedra”, playing live in numerous town squares in Benevento and the surrounding province. Unfortunately, in 2003 his relationship with the other musicians went up in smoke! He did not want to give up however. His desire to play was immense so he said, “No! I refuse to quit” and began to participate in various musical competitions: the Festival of Naples 2003, the Festival of Castrocaro 2005, the final of the Abruzzi Festival 2003 televised on Channel Italia, Live Music in Benevento 2003, the semifinals of the Mediterranean Festival 2005, the finals of Italiachecanta (Italy that sings) 2006 televised on RTB International, selected for the Bologna Music Festival 2006, Italiachecanta Estate (Italy that sings - Summer) winning the prize for the best interpretation, regional competitions etc… All this musical activity did not impede his studies and artistic development collaborating with Planet Wave and Lorenzo d’Amelio, well-known for his recording and publication of “Nati x”.
